We know these lists are completely subjective and that ranking music can feel a little weird at times but these are the records we’ve had on repeat over the past 12 months. More importantly, in a world increasingly shaped by algorithms, highlighting lesser-known and often overlooked artists remains the very essence of our blog. We hope you’ll take the time to dive into the artists and projects you might not know yet.

Like last year, the list is ordered alphabetically, because the “real” ranking changes every day depending on our mood. That said, if you’re looking for a top three, keep an eye on Oklou, Nourished By Time, and Smerz.

Known for their ice-cold synth-pop textures, the duo crafts a sound both melancholic and surreal. “Deep Blue” echoes the spectral beauty of their earlier work, with Scout’s opaque lyricism floating over Reid’s pristine production. The track’s origins? A nighttime walk, a fleeting vocal idea, and Bianca Scout’s ethereal reinterpretation, resulting in a song that’s as enigmatic as it is entrancing. Alongside the announcement, the pair debuted “Penthouse Samba,” one of the ethereal tracks for the new album, which pays tribute to legendary Brazilian bossa nova singer Astrud Gilberto.

Now You See Me Now You Don’t is described as a captivating journey through Scout and Reid’s “signature blend of fantasy and reality” with recurring themes from Life and Death, their previous EP, looming heavily throughout it

Their latest double A side, “The Tudors / The Bells,” pushes these boundaries further. “The Tudors” is a dark, immersive memento mori, evoking ancient executions, manipulated faith, and history’s haunting cycles. Scout’s lyrics and Reid’s production guide listeners through a forest of memory and melancholy.

“The Bells,” meanwhile, explores the struggle of re-entering life after isolation, capturing urgency amid neurological challenges. With references to the three death bells, it meditates on life’s cycles and transformation. Reid’s lead vocals blend with Scout‘s haunting harmonies and a field recording of Easter church bells, adding to its resonant depth.
