Boston-based singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler is back with a new track and the announcement of a new album for this fall. The follow-up to her 2016’s LP “Strangers” was co-produced with Lawrence Rothman and Justin Raisen and features an impressive female casting: Angel Olsen, Sharon Van Etten, Kristin Kontrol, Patty Schemel on drums, Mary Lattimore on harp, and experimental multi-instrumentalist Janel Leppin on strings.

The album is introduced to us with its title track “For My Crimes”, which is a beautiful ballad where she begs not to be remembered for her crimes. The backing vocals are signed by Angel Olsen. The monochromatic video fits perfectly the song and her emotional voice, which both are loaded with nostalgia and smoothness. The instrumental is sober and only features some strings, soft percussions, and her subtle guitar. Thus, her mezzo-soprano voice is particularly present and participates, as an instrument, to the melancholy and the beauty of the track.

[su_dropcap style=”simple”]M[/su_dropcap]ore than ten years after her official debut album “Ballads of Living and Dying”, American folk singer-songwriter Marissa Nadler keeps on recounting some painful stories with her sober voice that sometimes sounds like a ghost who escaped from hell or paradise. Twelve years after, she is about to release “Stangers”, a seventh album set for release on May 20 on Sacred Bones/Bella Union, from which the beautiful “Janie In Love” is taken.

In this song, Nadler delivers a subtle but quite gritting chorus which, like a wild twister, inflames both fear and admiration. A feeling that perfectly fit some lyrics such as “You’re a natural disaster and I am watching you blow up everything”.
