Lightning Bug‘s October Song will be re-issued on Fat Possum on April 24.

Last year, Lightning Bug caught our attention with her sophomore album October Song, a project to “record the deepest experiences in the self and connect them outward,” explained the band’s mastermind Audrey Kang. It looks like we were not the only ones to put the Brooklyn singer-songwriter on our radar: Fat Possum will re-issue the record on vinyl next month.

Coming with this good news, Lightning Bug have shared a haunting, shoegaze-y new track, “The Onely Ones,” as well as a video that Kang co-directed with Owen Smith-Clark. In a statement, she also detailed: “You know when you experience a sudden extreme of emotion? Not quite anguish, not quite joy, but some unutterable mixture of both. This song is my attempt to express that.”

“The Roundness of Days” is the third and final single from Lightning Bug‘s forthcoming full-length record October Song, out September 6 on Marbled Arm Records.

In case you did not know it, New York’s indie-pop three-piece Lightning Bug are about to release a new album early September. So far, we’ve heard the ethereal “October Song, Pt. II” as well as the epic shoegaze track “Vision Scraps“. They’re now back with a cloudy, ambient folk-pop song, “The Roundness of Days”, which was inspired by Virginia Woolf‘s novel The Waves (probably her most adventurous work, by the way). This taste for experimentation is also palpable in the structure of their track, and notably in its intriguing middle break. Encapsulating the cyclical nature of life, the song also comes with a video that you can watch below.

Lightning Bug‘s new album, October Song, is out September 6 on Marbled Arm Records.

Following up on the ethereal and dreamy “October Song, pt. ii”, Lightning Bug have shared the second single from their upcoming new album. On “Vision Scraps”, the band fronted by New York’s Audrey Kang handle noise and distortion, depicting a shoegaze haze that instantly recalls My Bloody Valentine. The rapturous track was inspired by “a period of intense and frustrating indecision”.

About the song, Kang explained to Balloon Machine where it was premiered:

[su_quote]This song includes a quote from my mom: “Too much freedom’s a cage – privilege.” I wrote it a while ago – I think I was around 20 – while I was trying to figure out what kind of life I wanted for myself. Now I know that life is a feast of surprises and trying to map it out is like rolling the boulder up the hill.[/su_quote]
