Wibes is one of those bands that feels like a happy accident in the best possible way. Hansine and Avery met on a bus in the summer of 2022 while heading to a rave in downtown Oslo, hit it off instantly, and soon began swapping demos just for fun. Hansine is an award-winning Norwegian filmmaker, while Avery is an American producer who completed a PhD in bioacoustics in Norway. A background that naturally feeds into the duo’s curious, exploratory sound. Together, they follow creative instincts wherever they lead, crafting playful, imaginative songs that feel intimate, meditative, and slightly otherworldly.
Teasing their debut album, planned for later this year, their new single, “Life Outside,” leans fully into that sense of wonder. Built from lush soundscapes crafted from nature field recordings and modular synthesizers, the track floats on Hansine’s dreamlike vocals, with a few unexpected textures added in, including samples of Avery’s 20-year-old cat, Scarlett. It’s gentle, curious, and quietly adventurous, and if, like us, you loved the movie Flow, this might also remind you of some good stuff.
