There’s a new name quietly buzzing across London’s underground circuit: 1000 Rabbits. The five-piece, originally from the coastal town of Aldeburgh, have quickly made themselves at home in the capital, becoming regulars on intimate stages and building a reputation for vibrant, unpredictable live shows. Now signed to the Young label, they represent a fresh wave of inventive UK bands unafraid to play with form and texture. Formerly known as Rabbitfoot, they’ve evolved into something more ambitious, combining guitar, bass, drums, synth, and violin into a distinctive sound. And after months of refining their identity on stage, they’re ready to share their first official release.
That debut track, “Virgin Soil,” captures exactly what makes 1000 Rabbits so exciting. It begins with restraint, layering guitar and synthesiser into a slowly rising sense of anticipation, while the violin shifts between delicate melody and something more jagged and urgent. The tension builds patiently before breaking into an explosive finale that feels both unexpected and earned rather than forced ; a release shaped by the band’s time performing it live. As they explain, “‘Virgin Soil’ represents the band’s beginnings – experimenting together and making music with no rules. It feels right as our first track out in the world.”
