Rare DM, the creative alter ego of NYC’s enigmatic singer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Erin Hoagg, has made a name for herself with her dark brand of dance-pop. Enhancing her eerie soundscapses, her sharp, witty lyrics chronicle digital-age romance, desire, and the allure of aspirational living. In her latest single, “Skater Hits Me Harder,” which marks the start of a new era, the analog darkwave artist sings about lust—but not only.
“’Skater Hits Me Harder’ is lyrically about banging someone and wanting to do it again, and about realizing that your last lover really sucked,” she stated. “But the feeling behind the song is that nothing is better than that first date kiss — someone holding your hand for the first time. When you don’t know if the date is going well but you have butterflies and are kinda nervous but then they grab your hand and you make out against fences on the way back to your apartment.”
The track comes with a Calvin Stark-directed video, starring Rare DM and Nick Flohr. Watch below.
