Ever had a moment in nature that felt so surreal it stuck with you forever? That’s exactly what happened to Berlin-based artist Snake Orange Cake (aka Julia Carlsson). While on a beach in Costa Rica, she locked eyes with a wild iguana. And that strange, mystical encounter ended up inspiring her brand-new single, “Animals.”
The hazy track is pure hypnotic indietronica: shimmering synths, pulsing loops, and flashes of spoken word that all melt together into a trance-like soundscape. Even cooler, Carlsson did it all herself: writing, recording, producing, and mixing the song from start to finish. And to top it off, the Berlin-shot video directed by Manuel Jesus adds a dreamlike layer to the whole surreal experience.
