We first crossed paths with Silver Liz back in 2020, and we’ve been following their journey closely since then, so it’s genuinely exciting to watch how far they’ve come. At the heart of the project are Carrie and Matt Wagner, who met in a college practice room and slowly built Silver Liz into a singular presence in the Brooklyn scene. After time spent in central Pennsylvania and Chicago, the couple landed in New York, refining a sound that blends intimacy with experimentation. And their upcoming album, III, arriving at the end of January, feels like a real turning point.

One of the highlights of this new record is their latest single, “Trixie’s Crying.” The track feels like a flangering dream pop classic reimagined for the digital and fragmented world of 2026: hazy, emotional, but threaded with modern and subtle glitches. Written from the perspective of someone trying desperately to help a struggling friend, the song takes an unexpected turn as the narrator seeks advice from an online therapist, pretending the pain isn’t theirs. The chorus was born in a small, very human moment, Carrie strumming her guitar in Brooklyn while her housemate’s calico cat, Trixie, cried nearby.
