Her new release, “Boy,” taps straight into that emotional core. The song is a cover, but it feels profoundly lived-in and personal. In Moan’s hands, “Boy” becomes a tender, shimmering reflection on identity and belonging, as she stated on her Instagram: “‘Boy’ is a cover of one of my favorite tracks from Book of Love (A Philly band!). At its core this song is about wanting to belong but because of your biology or sexuality you will never really be where you want to be. And it’s always resonated really strongly for me after all these years living life as a trans person. I started this cover a while back and it turned out Trey Frye was also covering it at the same time so we smashed our versions together into this.”
