Norwegian artist Marit Othilie Thorvik, better known as Jouska, is preparing to release her new album How Did I Wind Up Here? in October. Written between late 2022 and 2024, the 10-track album is shaped by themes of loss, guilt, shame, and emotional distance—balanced with glimmers of acceptance and clarity. It promises to be her most intimate and introspective work yet.

The album’s latest single, “Pierced.”, explores a raw and vulnerable side of this next chapter. Following the haunting “Flower Moon,” “Pierced.” strips back the polish of Jouska’s earlier work, instead embracing darker, more fragile textures. “This one grew out of a shame tied to being seen at all,” Thorvik shares. “I’ve always struggled with visibility… This song captures that feeling.” Co-written with her partner Hans Olav Settem, the track blends shoegaze, noise rock, and trip-hop influences into a hypnotic, sensual arrangement.
