Molto Ohm is back with Reality Pills, released on Friday, and it feels like stepping into a carefully designed alternate headspace. We already introduced him a few weeks ago through “Nezovyl (ft. Aditya Chatterjee & Tanners)”, and this new album shows just how far he’s taken that sonic vision. Nodding to Jean Baudrillard’s idea of hyperreality, the record plays with the feeling that our digital lives can seem sharper, shinier, even more convincing than what’s right in front of us. Each of the nine tracks is named after a fictional medication, like little emotional prescriptions for life on a screen. Built from hardware synths, treated guitar, layered vocals, voiceovers and contributions from collaborators, the album turns the chaos of his immersive live shows into something more focused and intimate.
One of the standout moments is the new single “Clovarid”, created with bi coastal touring pianist Puck. The track has a gentle pull to it, blending tender piano touches with Molto Ohm’s textured electronic production. It feels comforting at first, with the sound of waves softly wrapping around you, but as usual there’s also something slightly off balance in the darker synths and lyrics, that keeps you leaning in.
