Miami’s own Nick León is opening a new chapter with A Tropical Entropy, his long-awaited debut album arriving June 27 via the ever-vital TraTraTrax label. If you were as obsessed with “Bikini” as we were — his standout 2024 collaboration with the effortlessly cool Erika de Casier — then you’re in for a real treat. That track, with its hypnotic sensual rhythm and dreamy vocals, was a favorite of ours last year and will be featured on the record.

León has long been a quietly influential force, crafting a sound that blurs borders and bends genre. His sonic palette, often described as “Arquitectronica,” pulls from the humid surrealism of his Miami home and reaches into experimental reggaeton, ambient textures, and altered states of mind. This new record draws inspiration from Joan Didion’s 1987 book Miami and the disorienting, sometimes transcendent states that come from sleepless nights and chemically shifted perceptions.

The latest taste from the album is “Ghost Orchid,” a haunting, beat-driven collaboration with one of our longtime favorites, Ela Minus. The track feels like it breathes in the humid air of a late-night Miami club and exhales something spectral and strange. It’s a mesmerizing blend of León’s subtle production and Ela Minus’s ethereal voice.

With additional features from Xander Amahd, Jonny From Space, Esty & Mediopicky, Lavurn, and Casey MQ, A Tropical Entropy is shaping up to be one of the most exciting releases of the summer.
