We’ve been following Swiss artist Pet Owner since her debut album Natural Behavior and the single “Hysterical,” which we premiered back in 2022. Behind the project is Lea Mathis, who creates indie pop that’s both instantly catchy and full of unexpected turns. From the very beginning, her music has carried a sense of raw honesty wrapped in gentle, carefully layered arrangements.
Now she’s ready to open a new chapter with her sophomore album Second Nature, set for release in early 2026. Between her debut and this new record, Pet Owner stepped away from the familiar to seek new sources of inspiration, embracing risk and discovery in the process. The result promises to be a surreal indie pop journey, one that reflects her growth as a songwriter while holding onto the tender, DIY spirit that first caught our attention.
Leading the way is the new single “Tunnel Eye,” a dreamy piece born from a winter spent in isolation in a snow-covered Swiss cabin. Built around a hypnotic synth arpeggio, the track unfolds with shimmering layers of guitar, blurred textures, and an intimate voice that seems to whisper directly to the listener. “There’s a smile that appears — too bright, too perfect — and the ordinary becomes strange. Grass grows wild. You’ve been here before. You’ve been here before. A road without end. The sun kisses your face. The window becomes your X-ray. Time folds and every turn leads deeper into it.” With its disorienting yet playful atmosphere, “Tunnel Eye” has us curious to discover Pet Owner’s Second Nature.
