Electronic auteur Purient opens new era with “Mwah” video

Purient's new EP, Mwah, is set to release on November 21 via Steel City Dance Discs.

As a DIY electronic producer and vocalist, Purient, the alter ego of Kate Durman, crafts ethereal atmospheres with bold, experimental arrangements. Her unique style has caught the attention of notable artists like Eartheater and Varg2™, who have remixed her work. Durman is also one-third of the dream-pop band Acopia. Two years after her WBWU EP, Purient has just announced her upcoming EP, Mwah, due out November 21.

Released today, the EP title track, “Mwah,” blends somber harmonies with pulsating low-end frequencies. It creates an uncanny mood that transmute emotional depth into an audacious club-ready experience. The Melbourne-based artist’s single is complemented by a visually striking music video, helmed by director Jamie Timony and cinematographer Jordan Hourigan. Set against the backdrop of Melbourne’s urban landscape, the clip deepens Purient’s artistic exploration of human connection, imagination, longing, closeness, and alienation.

Purient also shared insights into the creation of “Mwah”, stating, “When making ‘Mwah’, I was noticing a change in my personal growth, self-worth, and letting go of what people might think of me. The lyrical content is simple, but to me runs a little deeper.” Watch, stream and support below.
