In less than a month, art-pop artist Petra Glynt will be releasing her new album “This Trip”. The artist has just shared the third single taken from this LP. “Up To The People” also comes with a Doldrums remix and a list of concert dates.

Following up to “This Trip” and “Fell In A Hole“, Alexandra Mackenzie aka Petra Glynt shares a new single before the release of her upcoming album. Once again, the uptempo track has a social dimension as the artist is – almost – rapping about capitalism’s fails. About the track, she detailed:

[su_quote]”Up To The People” comes from the year 2013. It’s about the end of the Occupy Movement and the globally internalized realization that the world is controlled by a 1% elite and how strong we really are as the 99% for our sheer numbers and diversity. There’s power and beauty in feeling that. That year was a poignant brain shift for me and I was empowered by my own rage and in awe of brave people and community organizing for the sake of challenging capitalism and the 1% elite. This song is basically giving props to those people.[/su_quote]

The Canadian artist has also collaborated with her friends of Doldrums for a twisted and tougher version of the track.

Look who is back! Our brand new playlist curator Free Anckaert – note to native English speakers: yes that’s his real name, it’s not a nickname – is back with a selection of his favorite tracks.

Every week, Free scours through hundreds of SoundCloud tracks to find the best new gems by artists that are flying under the radar.

Each week our Brussels-based fellow overwhelms you with a variety of songs that make your head go nuts. Here are a few of his favorites:

Doldrums – HEATER:

As a fan from the very beginning, I can’t be more happy to hear Doldrums is back with one of his best tracks ever and soon his third album “ESC”. “HEATER” hits you right in the face with heavy dark industrial synths, skipping syncopated beats and Airick Woodhead’s airy melodic vocals. Oh yes, check the video clip.

Dinamarca – Resurrection / Paraíso:

It hasn’t happened much I added two songs by the same artists in my Highclouds playlist (Charli XCX yay!). But Dinamarca is a real phenomenon able to make me doubt my music taste sometimes since he’s making hardcore-on-the-edge-gabber and emotive, sad-euphoric sounds. Both tracks are part of his Dinamarca’s new “Himnos” EP. (Holy is still one of the best club tracks made last year #noshame)

Washed Out – Get Lost:

Back in the good old (do I dear to say this already?) times of 2011-2013 when chillwave and dream pop were peaking, Washed Out was one of the best in its kind. With the two very close affiliated acts Toro y Moi and Wild Nothing both going into a new direction – the former better than the latter – all eyes are on Washed Out. And after a few listens of this new “Get Lost” I can assure you this song is just top notch!

Following up to 2016’s single “RUNNERUP”, Doldrums recently shared a new track and video. “Heater”, which sounds like an acid trip, will be featured on their third LP ‘ESC’.

OK, Doldrums are not the tidiest band in the world but there’s something infectious and inspiring about their -mess- music. Actually, it sounds like a whole spirit that would hover over Montreal and inspire several artists, including Grimes. On “Heater”, Doldrums sings ‘I’m a people person, are you?’ on a dramatic, frenzy, epic acid soundtrack. There’s a will of independance and of being free that go further than their unconventional sound. It sounds raw and honest.

[soundcloud url=”https://api.soundcloud.com/tracks/322767625″ params=”color=ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false” width=”100%” height=”166″ iframe=”true” /]
[su_spacer]

The ‘homemade’ video, which was shot by Jordan Minkoff, also features appearances from Errhead, CCB and Petra Glynt. About the track, the artist detailed:

[su_quote]This track came out of the middle of winter at the Torn Curtain, where I holed up to record the new album. I also want to officially announce that the new record Esc is coming out June 30, and I’m going to be putting the record out on my own label [/su_quote]

Doldrums also added to The Fader:

[su_quote]”Heater” is our TV debut, with me, Petra Glynt and CCB ripping it up on a set inspired by sketchy late night talk shows – ESC TV,[…] This shows what a couple of friends can make in a day of guru-fueled DIY mayhem. More soon, stay tuned xo _errhead.[/su_quote]

[su_youtube_advanced url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Azo8LaGIrHE”]

The Montreal-based electronic project headed by Airick Asher Woodhead, recorded this new 10-track album ‘ESC’ after a long tour for their second LP ‘The Air Conditioned Nightmare’ (Sub Pop). You can listen to the previously released single “RUNNERUP” below.

[su_spacer]

‘Esc’ will be independently released on June 30 and is already available for pre-order here.
