“Quicksand” is taken from Hatchie‘s sophomore album, Giving The World Away, out April 22 via Secretly Canadian.

Brisbane singer-songwriter Harriette Pilbeam aka Hatchie has announced the release of her sophomore record Giving The World Away. “It’s the concept of giving your heart away,” says Hatchie about what she described as her ‘truest’ project. “Putting everything on the line…the entire album is really me realising that I actually need to do that in order to grow and accept myself.”

Following up to “This Enchanted,” she has also unveiled the amazing Jorge Elbrecht-produced lead single “Quicksand,” which combines dream pop, shoegaze and a certain pop grandeur – Olivia Rodrigo‘s collaborator Dan Nigro is also credited on the cathartic track. “I’m capable of writing more than just nice dream-pop songs, and there’s more to me than just writing songs about being in love or being heartbroken — there’s a bigger picture than that,” Pilbeam adds. “This album really just feels like the beginning to me, and scratching the surface – and even though it’s my third release as Hatchie, I feel like I’m rebooting from scratch.”

Australian talent Hatchie releases third track “Obsessed” from her upcoming debut album Keepsake due June 21 on Heavenly Recordings.

Continuing on from the success of her EP Sugar & Spice and further single releases “Without A Blush” and “Stay With Me”, Australian dream-pop artist Hatchie returns with her latest offering “Obsessed”. About the new track, she explained:

[su_quote]It’s ultimately a celebration of meeting somebody who you look up to who helps you grow into a more adventurous person.[/su_quote]

“Obsessed” straddles the line between shoegaze and outright pop, retaining the sparkling sugar coated essence that has become somewhat of a staple of Hatchie’s music. It radiates fun and frivolity: the upbeat jangling guitars infusing the song with an infectious light heartedness and giddy energy. Hatchie’s voice suits the mildly melancholic however, and the breakdown in the later stages of the song display this to full effect, as she laments “And maybe you’ll outgrow me/ Or maybe you’ll follow me down/ What happens when the love you give is greater than you receive?”

The track resonates as a whole, mainly because the central theme is so relatable. When Hatchie croons “It’s okay, yeah it’s okay/ but I do/ I get a little bit obsessed with you,” the listener is struck with a familiar feeling; everyone at some point or another has looked at their friends and been overwhelmed by love and appreciation for them. Ultimately, “Obsessed” is a pure and jovial ode to loving your friends to the point of obsession.

It’s fitting then that the music video for the track is a montage of footage taken from her tour with Girlpool in North America earlier, seeing Hatchie having what appears to be the best time on the road with her band. The perfect encapsulation for the spirit of the track. Hatchie will shortly begin her UK tour in June before heading back to North America for more tour dates. In the meantime, watch “Obsessed” below.

Hatchie‘s debut album Keepsake is out June 22 on Double Double Whammy.

This Summer, Brisbane’s dream pop singer-songwriter Harriette Pilbeam aka Hatchie will unveil her debut album Keepsake. Some weeks ago, she already shared the searing first single, “Without A Blush,” and we can now hear a second track off of the project. On “Stay With Me,” Hatchie deals with solitude as her lover has gone. About the track, she detailed:

[su_quote]”Stay With Me” was written as a writing exercise in an effort to step away from my usual style into something more fun and dancey. We originally wrote it with someone else in mind, but realized it was the perfect fit for my album as I wanted to expand into a different sound. It became one of my favourite songs on the record because I’m a sucker for crying-in-the-club tracks.[/su_quote]

The track also comes with a Joe Agius-directed video where the artist is in a club, dancing on her own. Watch below.

Hatchie‘s “Without A Blush” is taken from her forthcoming debut album Keepsake, due June 21 on Heavenly Recordings.

Ahead of her debut full length album in June, the Australian dream pop goddess Hatchie drops newest single “Without A Blush”. The song takes a warped turn from the sugar coated sickly pop of her Sugar & Spice EP even if the 90’s influences are staunchly in place and the chorus still feels like a John Hughes drenched masterpiece. This is an important link to make because there is something cinematic embedded in Hatchie’s sound, a real hazy nostalgia that comes with thrumming guitars, songs hinged around a repeated riff and central refrain. “Without A Blush” tinkles and chimes with tolling bells, evoking an almost Christmassy feel. When paired with a raging guitar riff driving the song forward, it feeds into this dichotomous feel. This added layer takes it above and beyond being a cast off from her Sugar & Spice.

Her new direction also shows development and growth: the potential is bursting here. There’s a darker edge, more rock inflected riffs that feel scuzzier and raw, but it’s refined and controlled. The vocals sound a lot tighter too, more succinct and sharp than the languorous delivery we’ve seen on tracks like “Try” and “Sugar & Spice”. Lyrically it’s what we know and love, some yearning, pining, regret and downright sorrow but the sheen of upbeat synth gives us the tell tale duality. It’s auspicious and the pointed turn in direction and slight divergence in tone from her more bubblegum dream pop seems more fitting for a full length release. She’s found a sound that’s individualistic and soars without relying solely on the nostalgic edge. “Without A Blush” sounds like she’s figuring it out on her own.

Hatchie‘s 5-track debut EP “Sugar And Spice” is due out on May 25 via Double Double Whammy.

Brisbane-based artist Harriette Pilbeam, better known as Hatchie, has shared a Joe Agius-directed video for her single “Sleep.” The John Castle-produced track is the fourth single to be taken from her upcoming debut EP.

About the track, Hatchie detailed:

[su_quote]’Sleep’ is about feeling frustrated with someone who can’t communicate their feelings. In this song I’m trying to coax someone into talking to me by any means necessary, even if it means visiting me in dreams. [/su_quote]

Before adding about the video:

[su_quote]We decided to play on the idea that I’m trying to get someone to communicate with me in their sleep. We made a bunch of dreamy sets to focus on, like I’m talking to them in their dreams. At some points I’m really serious, at other points I’m almost teasing them because I’m so over trying to get them to talk.[/su_quote]

Besides this release, Hatchie also announced a series of UK shows. Watch the video and check her itinerary below.

[su_youtube_advanced url=”https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icad1HjrmXs”]
