Miaw's new EP, Ciao, is out via Purr Records.

Last Friday brought us a bunch of great new releases, including new albums from DJ Suzy, Boyhood and Fine. But we hope you haven’t overlooked Ciao, the new EP from miaw, either.

Made up of Frederik Fog Bruun and Liza Dries, who first connected through Cologne’s underground music scene, the Copenhagen based duo have been making some wonderfully unpredictable pop music. Their sound brings together the restless energy of UK bass, the haziness of shoegaze and the melancholy of 90s trip hop. Their debut EP, My Petswan, arrived in 2024, and for a while, the two were living in different countries, making music whenever they could visit each other or simply exchanging files online. That back and forth, both geographically and musically, has become part of what makes their music so distinctive.

One winter day, Liza wrote “ciao” in the snow covering a parked car and sent a picture to a friend. The photo eventually became the artwork for their single “moving in”, and the word stuck around. Since it can mean both hello and goodbye, it also seemed like a fitting choice for two musicians who had spent years moving between cities.

Released on October 23, their Ciao EP packs an impressive amount of ideas into just 16 minutes. Written and produced between Berlin, Groningen and Copenhagen, its five tracks are full of chopped vocals, restless breakbeats, fuzzy guitars and melodies that seem to appear out of nowhere. There’s even room for video game sounds, wonky flutes and broken glass. Already featured in our Best Songs of 2026 playlist, “moving in” turns a pounding club beat into something strangely sentimental, while “traffic lights” and “sad song” feel like hazy dreams you could dance to. Elsewhere, “make a waterfall” plays with fragmented samples, and “wonderland” brings a softer, more nostalgic touch.

And while the whole thing sounds effortlessly playful, getting some of these tracks to work wasn’t always easy. As Frederik explains, “Some of the tracks found their true form really late in the process after we thought it might never work out, becoming something really dear to us”. Perhaps that’s part of the charm of Ciao: even when the beats get messy and the melodies take unexpected turns, there’s always something warm and personal holding everything together.

miaw's new single "sad song" is out via purr records.

Ever since we stumbled upon miaw‘s glitchy, shape-shifting debut song “ATT” in 2024, the Copenhagen-based duo (Frederik Bruun + Liza Dries) has been sitting comfortably on our radar as one of the most exciting discoveries out of the city. Their ability to blur the lines between experimental textures and emotional songwriting feels both instinctive and carefully crafted, like they’re constantly reshaping what a pop song can be without losing that human touch.

Following the release of “moving in”, a gem that already found its way into our Best Songs of 2026 playlist, miaw returns today with “sad song”, and it’s anything but what the title suggests. What begins as a hazy, almost nostalgic intro quickly flips into something far more urgent, driven by pulsating synth bass, sharp drums, and vocals that cut through with a bright intensity. Written between Berlin and Copenhagen, the track captures that restless shift from introspection to release, turning sadness into movement, into energy. As Liza puts it, “Sad Song is spring to me – like a little seed or knop on a tree patiently waiting at first, honest and gentle… Get exposed to the world, have fun, get hurt – get some real life experience.” Frederik adds, “I remember that morning I had a feeling something needed to burst out… this song came to us and wanted to explode.” That tension between softness and eruption is exactly where miaw thrives, and we’re hoping this spring-tinged new song is part of a bigger project.

miaw's new single "moving in" is out via purr records.

We’ve been following miaw ever since their glimmering debut single “ATT” dropped almost two years ago, and it’s been exciting to watch them steadily shape their own little corner. The Copenhagen-based cross-pop duo brings together Liza Dries (NL) and Frederik Fog (DK), both students or graduates from the respected RMC music school. What started as a project between Cologne and Berlin has grown into a confident, forward-thinking act, with live shows across Europe in 2025 and a growing buzz around their deconstructed, genre-blurring sound that floats between pop sensitivity and experimental textures. And while you’re at it, it’s definitely worth diving into Liza Dries’ solo material too.

miaw‘s new single “moving in” leans fully into that emotional, hazy space they do so well. As they describe it, “moving in” is a melancholic dreamsong, challenging the original song-format blending together sampled vocals, shoegaze guitars and unorthodox UK Bass references. It feels immersive and ethereal, but it also has a hypnotic quality to it. Listen below.

miaw's new single, “Want Something,” is the final puzzle piece leading up to their much-anticipated debut EP, My Petswan, out on November 22

If you haven’t discovered miaw yet, let us bring you up to speed. Known for their love of fast-paced sampled drums, chopped-up vocals, and dreamy, otherworldly synths, the duo crafts music that sits firmly at the crossroads of pop and club culture. Their tracks are progressive, experimental, and irresistibly catchy, seamlessly blending emotional narratives with high-energy production. With their new single, released via Copenhagen’s eclectic label Petrola 80, the cross-pop duo redefines the concept ofclassic love song with a bold, unexpected twist.

As “Want Something” unfolds, its eclectic and experimental production reveals some depth. Driven by shimmering plucks, breakbeat energy, and pitch-shifted vocals that tug at the heartstrings, miaw’s dichotomous new song captures the raw emotions of a protagonist yearning for a love that remains unrequited.

miaw’s “Want Something” is a testament to the duo’s innovative and distinctive approach

The track was born one cold, bright December on the Danish seaside—the very start of miaw’s journey as a duo. Despite its melancholic themes, “Want Something” has become a standout favorite at live shows, and it is easy to understand why. With playful vocal samples, a car-crash sound that jolts listeners at a pivotal moment, and a dreamy tempo slowdown that melts into calm reflection, “Want Something” isn’t just a song—it’s a testament to the duo’s innovative and distinctive approach to music.

"hello hello" is taken from miaw's upcoming debut EP, My Petswan, to be released via Petrola80.

miaw, a duo consisting of Frederik Fog from Denmark and Liza Dries from the Netherlands, is readying the release of its debut EP. The upcoming project, titled My Petswan, will be distributed through Petrola80, the label run by Copenhagen duo Lyra Valenza. This release follows the dreamwave duo’s glimmering debut single “Strong.”

Alongside the EP announcement, miaw shared a new single. “hello hello” showcases their innovative approach to music production. The track combines electronic music, chops of drum’n’bass rhythms, and an ethereal call and response hook. Despite its title, the aerial song ironically explores themes of farewell. It addresses past friendships and complicated romantic relationships within an urban setting. Float away below.

Electronic dream pop duo miaw release their debut single “ATT” ahead of their upcoming EP MyPetswan out via Lyra Valenza’s

Electronic dream pop duo miaw release their debut single “ATT” ahead of their upcoming EP MyPetswan out via Lyra Valenza’s label Petrola80.

Comprised of Frederik Fog and Liza Dries, electronic dream pop duo miaw have released their glitchy debut single “ATT” (All The Time).

Having started working together at the back end of 2022, the duo found their rhythm by experimenting with genres, combining 90’s drum and bass and 00’s glitch pop; the result of which is the simultaneously nostalgic and futuristic soundscape of “ATT”.

Born out of a sun soaked stroll in the park in Cologne, “ATT” was inspired by the simple image of a jubilant dog running through the park. This scene, this image sparked the duo to create a narrative of a past romance, one that centres around convincing yourself that you are better than the other person in the relationship.

“ATT” is made up of fast and thrumming synthesisers, shredded and sampled vocals and atmospheric electronic drums. The layered and textured vocals, haunting split harmonies and thudding electronic background creates a nuanced and engaging track. A formidable debut.

The relentlessness of the track, the lush and fully rounded soundscape of “ATT” signifies exciting things to come from miaw’s debut EP MyPetswan due out later this year.
