Melancholia and euphoria are usually two antagonistic moods but nothing is more haunting than when they melt into each other. This is the direction taken by Dawn to Dawn (Adam Ohr, Patrick Lee & Tess Roby) on their ethereal yet pulsating new single, “Stereo,” which sits halfway between lo-fi electronic à la Kedr Livanskiy and dreamy Montreal pop. Evoking the rawness of brutalist architecture, the carefree nature of a rave at sunrise, or again the hedonism of a nocturnal trip with your besties, the celestial offering captures, in their own words, “the sound of summer: sweltering nights, afterparties and playful romance.”

Alongside “Stereo,” the Montreal trio have now officially announced their debut album, Postcards From The Sun To The Moon, which was mixed by Patrick Holland and Pierre Guerineau. It features the previously released singles “Meridian,” “Care,” and “A Colour Named By You” and will be released via Tess Roby’s newly launched label, SSURROUNDSS.

Montreal’s musician and producer Marie Davidson has announced the creation of a new band, L’Œil Nu, which also comprises Pierre Guerineau (her husband with who she releases music as Essaie Pas) and Asaël R. Robitaille. According to the press release, Renegade Breakdown is “a reaction to years in which she spent most of her life on the road, navigating the club and festival lifestyle: the airports, the late nights, the lost or damaged gear—often alone.”

Released as lead single, the title track “Renegade Breakdown” seems to draw from pop music with a keen chorus and defiant lyrics reminiscent of the French enigmatic artist Mylène Farmer. Watch the visuals below.
