Now, a decade later, PRODUCT is back, this time with a deluxe edition celebrating its 10th anniversary. Out on vinyl and CD on July 11 (and digitally today via Numbers), the reissue includes two never-before-heard tracks: “OOH” and “GET HIGHER,” both created during the original PRODUCT era.

“OOH,” once known as “Make Respect,” was first performed live by SOPHIE at Sónar Festival in 2011 and completed in 2019 with vocals from X Factor contestant Jaide Green. “GET HIGHER,” featuring Cassie Davis and Sean Mullins, had previously only been available on the Japanese CD edition of the album. This new version also brings visual treats as vinyl buyers will get slide posters featuring artwork for each track.

A few days ago, SOPHIE released an official Autechre remix of her excellent track “BIPP”. It was quite a surprise as the Scottish producer has been reluctant for a long time to allow any remixes of her tracks. Like many of you, the Autechre version did not really amaze us. Nevermind, she has now unveiled the B-side of the single, “UNISIL,” which is actually an unreleased track from her 2015 breakthrough debut compilation PRODUCT (the artwork is also here to confirm that). Don’t try to understand what is happening here: “UNISIL” is a galloping and glitchy cacophony, for which she alone has the secret recipe.

According to the press release, “UNISIL” was available as a digital bonus for the lucky people who managed to buy the Limited Edition Silicone Product version of the record. Yes, the one that comes with what we can commonly call a dildo.

And 7 out of 8! After “Just like “Just Like We Never Said Goodbye” and “MSMSMSM“, PC Music’s producer Sophie has just unveiled a new track taken from the compilation of singles, PRODUCT, which is due out November 27 on Numbers. While love is a universal feeling, “L.O.V.E.” is maybe not the most accessible track of the Scottish artist with its high frequency and robotic vocal chops.

If you care about pop music, then you will have closely followed all of SOPHIE’s movements by this point. The Scottish producer has been kicking up a storm one single after another, putting out some of the best vanguard pop of the decade. Some of these singles have now been compiled under PRODUCT, an upcoming album/mixtape of sorts whose physical release includes a SOPHIE-branded sex toy. It’s great. PRODUCT will also include early bangers like “ELLE” and “LEMONADE”, which kickstarted SOPHIE’s career, and four newer tracks. “JUST LIKE WE NEVER SAID GOODBYE” belongs to the latter group, and it’s one of the strongest songs the Scottish enigmatic artist has put out so far.

“JUST LIKE WE NEVER SAID GOODBYE” is SOPHIE’s version of a romantic ballad. For all the radical instrumentation that forms the backbone of the track proper, the lyrics are just a straightforward love story, the sort that makes up for about 60% of romcoms’ plots: “We were young and outta control / I haven’t seen you since I was about, mm, sixteen years old / But then you called me up the other day (…) / It makes me feel just like we never said goodbye.”

Suffice to say, this is a SOPHIE song, so the lyrics will be backed up by sparse splashes of the loudest synth you can imagine. It is also one of the producer’s most minimalist productions to date. Gone are the frantic beats of “BIPP” and “ELLE”, here replaced by a sole EDM-inspired synthesizer and some background keyboard glitter. And yet it manages to feel too much, albeit in a good way. This is pop music deconstruction at its very best, and further proof that SOPHIE simply cannot do wrong.

Scottish producer SOPHIE is back with a new track, “MSMSMSM,” which doesn’t feature any pitched vocals unlike most of PC Music tracks. It actually sounds like a dark RL Grime’s trap banger. The single will be part of an 8-track project called PRODUCT. Three tracks are still to be unveiled.

You can also buy a special package called SILICON PRODUCT. If you do so, the 8 tracks will be shipped with a very post-modern and avant-garde item described as a “skin safe odourless and tasteless platinum silicon product.” If we refer to the picture below, this silicon product is also called a dildo. Lovely.
