Swedish producer and DJ Tove Agelii, better known as Toxe, has been making strange, emotional electronic music for more than a decade now. She first emerged from Gothenburg’s experimental club scene with Muscle Memory in 2015, before releasing Morning Story in 2017 and the excellent Blinks on PAN the following year. After a soundtrack for The Story of Leonora, she finally released her debut album Toxe2 through YEAR0001 in 2024, pushing her music further into pop without losing any of its weird little details.
And she is already back. Toxe’s new album Bubble Treasure arrives September 15, with two songs out so far, both accompanied by videos. “Wishing Well” landed first, leaning into the more melodic, song shaped side of her music, while “A Girl Who Needs A Brain” takes things somewhere stranger. Its self directed video has Toxe playing a zombie, with the song unfolding from the perspective of one clinging to her last romantic thoughts before everything goes wrong.
