“Release Yrself” is taken from M Wagner‘s upcoming debut album, We Could Stay, out May 17 via Extremely Pure.
Known as one half of Silver Liz, Brooklyn-based American electronic artist M Wagner (real name: Matthew Wagner) makes his solo debut with the LP opener, “Release Yrself.” The track is extracted from his upcoming debut album, which serves as a peripatetic diary inspired by personal experiences. The album’s atmospheres and ambiences were captured through field recordings, then manipulated and enhanced using his laptop.
“My background in classical music was incredibly formative for me, dating back to my earliest experiences with music,” says Wagner. “My deep love for it is something that sometimes feels both alienating and uncool, so I felt that embracing those influences might lead to something original for me. These are truly personal and even sentimental samples, which also, hopefully, avoid sounding like imitations of other artists.”
Stravinsky’s Concerto In D For String Orchestra forms a foundational layer within the soundbed of “Release Yrself,” a gritty track reminiscent of The Field‘s icy masterpiece Here We Go Sublime and “Jon” by A Beacon School.
