A Beacon School announces new album, shares epic banger “Jon”

“Jon” and “Potion” are taken from A Beacon School‘s new album, yoyo, out October 13 via Grind Select.

Fans of dream pop are familiar with A Beacon School, the brainchild of New York-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Patrick J. Smith. It has already been five years since Smith put out his debut album Cola, and later this year, he will finally share its follow-up, yoyo. Coming with this good news, Smith also shared not one but two singles: the jangly “Potion” but, most importantly, the epic banger that is “Jon”.

Pushing forward the electronic edge of the band, “Jon” is tailored for the clubs late at night, it’s the kind of hypnotic indie that blurs the lines between dream pop, shoegaze and trance. As the artist explains in his own words, it went through many forms before its final shape: “Originally a straightforward guitar song, it ended up in its current state of electronic drone after years of tinkering with it. Although there aren’t any lyrics, to me the song has always evoked New York at night and that’s what we tried to convey with the accompanying visualizer.”

“Jon” is obviously featured in our Best Tracks of 2023 playlist.
