Turkish artist Ece Era explores womanhood in “You Know What Goes Down”

"You Know What Goes Down" is taken from Ece Era's forthcoming debut album, due out this Fall via 2MR.

Following her promising 2022 debut EP War On Innocence, Turkish electronic musician Ece Era is preparing for the release of her yet-untitled debut album. So far, the Brussels-based artist has unveiled “Let Go” and today, she released the new single, “You Know What Goes Down.” This noir yet ethereal techno track explores themes of societal expectations placed on women, the artificiality of femininity, and the internal conflict women experience between their true selves and the roles they are expected to play. It also features a fascinating self-directed video, of which she stated:

“In everyday life, how much of our behavior reflects our authentic self, and how much is dictated by the history of the world and societal conditioning? I wanted to create a music video that’s simply an ode to saying ‘no.’”
