We’ve been following Molina for quite some time now, with “Hey Kids” being one of our favorite songs of 2018. Following her 2020 EP Vanilla Shell, the Danish-Chilean, Copenhagen-based composer has just announced her long-awaited debut album. When You Wake Up will be released on October 11 via Escho.
“It’s a record where I focused on the accidental and immediate,” Molina states, letting these qualities “become the center of the songs.” The album will feature the previously shared single “Scorpio” as well as the newly released “Organs,” a duet with fellow avant-pop luminary ML Buch. This collaboration is no coincidence, as Molina frequently contributes drums and vocals while touring with Buch around the world.
Molina‘s track “Organs,” featuring ML Buch on 7-string guitar and vocals, depicts a stark and metallic dream pop atmosphere.
“Organs” is very much a fusion of our individual approaches to perceiving melodies, recordings, and sound in general,” Molina explains about the collaborative track, which closes the record. “We are both fascinated by the “pulse” in music and how a song can be perceived to move at different paces. We also share a mutual attraction to catchy melodies. ML tends to unfold words with the melody in an elastic manner, while I prefer more on-the-note vocals that introduce unexpected harmonic shifts. “Organs” kind of holds all those elements of fascination and exploration together.”
