Farao returns with the lush and introspective “Dreamy Ride”

Farao's “Dreamy Ride” is out via marvaða and Western Vinyl.

Farao is the moniker of Norwegian producer Kari Jahnsen, whose genre-blending sound fuses dreamy 90s R&B, 80s-tinged disco, ambient jazz, and intricate layers of zither into a vivid, cinematic world. Alongside her solo work, Jahnsen is also one half of the beloved electronic duo Ultraflex, who took home an Icelandic Music Award for Best Electronic Album. With performances at festivals like Øya, SXSW, and Roskilde, and collaborations with legendary mix engineer Andrew Scheps, Farao has carved out a distinct space in the alternative pop music scene.

Now, Jahnsen is back in solo with the twinkling and introspective “Dreamy Ride.” Farao offers here a glimmering, slow-motion cruise through her signature blend of sensual synth pop textures and emotional clarity. “I wrote this track when I had an intense need to show the way forward for someone I cared deeply about, who just couldn’t see it themselves,” she explains. “I wanted to steer them in the right direction, so if you ride with me in my 1999 Saab 9-3 I promise a smooth journey.”
