Copenhagen-based duo A Good Year, made up of Albert Hildebrand and Tobias Laust Hansen, make music that moves fluidly between cinematic electronica and ambient pop, guided by a creative process where sound and image constantly inform one another. What started as an experimental dialogue between film and music has grown into something more expansive, a shared language that feels immersive and instinctive. As they put it, “Early on we figured out the process isn’t about ownership or expertise — it’s about the pleasure of a space with no rules, where learning from each other is the only goal.”
Now, they are ready to introduce their upcoming album Play, set for release on May 22 via Escho. While they consider it their debut record, it follows the quietly impactful Sofina, a soundtrack project released last year. Play takes a more open and collaborative route, growing organically from shared sessions, spontaneous ideas, and exchanges with a wide circle of contributors. Artists like Horse Vision, Tiffi M, Alba Akvama, MØ, Quiet Light, or Late Verlane all leave their mark in this collaborative record that feels intimate. About the creative process behind the project, Hansen explains: “It often starts with drums and an idea for an image or video. The visuals can direct the music, and the music can inspire the visuals.”
Alongside the announcement, A Good Year unveiled a new single, “Back of a car,” featuring Koliwood. It arrives with a self-directed music video, that captures the same hazy feeling running through their work. Watch below.
