Montreal duo Bibi Club, made up of Adèle Trottier-Rivard and Nicolas Basque, started out by turning their living room into a mini dance floor for their friends, and that spirit has stayed with them ever since. Over the past few years, they’ve grown into one of Quebec’s most exciting bands, with their debut Le soleil et la mer earning breakthrough awards and critical praise, and their follow-up Feu de garde landing them on the Polaris Music Prize shortlist. Onstage, they’re known for hypnotic, high-energy performances that have taken them everywhere from SXSW to festivals in Europe and Brazil.
Now, Bibi Club is back with big news: their third album Amaro arrives February 27 on Secret City Records. The record features special appearances from the amazing Helena Deland and Dimitri Milbrun. Written during a time of personal loss, Amaro explores heavy themes such as grief, resilience, and the will to keep moving forward, but always with the duo’s unique blend of avant-pop, luminous synths, and warm community spirit.
To kick things off, Bibi Club have just shared the album’s title track, “Amaro,” along with a mesmerizing new video. The duo describe the haunting song like this: “Amaro represents a legendary character, a feeling that permeates the length of their upcoming album of the same name. The thin line between death and life, grief and light, a force that keeps us alive. Amaro is an immortal figure between life and death, a place where we mourn. The song unfolds as an invitation to open up, to let loose, to dance, to push beyond oneself, to become greater than oneself, and to touch on fundamental aspects of humanity: grace, love, eternity.”
