“Energizer (They Bring Me Flowers)” is a sparkly new track marking the new album from Cali Bellow, the dream pop project from Leah B. Levinson. Levinson also plays bass for Agriculture, an L.A. based band that describes itself antipodally, yet accurately, as ecstatic black metal. And in the same seemingly contradictory way, “Energizer (They Bring Me Flowers)” successfully combines heavy with happy and harsh with heartening.

According to the artist, this new song is influenced by gospel, modern worship music, shoegaze, and dream pop. The incongruent genres meld together seamlessly to create a pop-influenced song reminiscent of the blown out speakers in early The Jesus and Mary Chain or Wavves. The reverb enters into your bones as if listening to a classic pop song through a box fan, but Levinson’s alluring vocals rise above the reverb inviting you to bring her flowers, just because.

Throughout the song, Levinson sings “I’ve just got to get the feeling right,” and without a doubt, Cali Bellow gets the feeling right for anyone looking for a unique new sound to add to their dreamy, hazy pop playlists.
