Hazel English recruits her following in new music video to “Shaking”

Hazel English‘s new track “Shaking” is out today on Marathon Artists.

Australian musician Hazel English returns with her first music video in two years. Her new single, “Shaking”, was co-written by English and Blake Stranathan (Lana Del Rey), and produced by Justin Raisen (Angel Olsen, Charli XCX).

English, who is now based in Los Angeles, merges 1980s dream-pop with the late-1960s electric guitar craze.

“There is a lot more I am trying to explore under the surface that I hope people notice,” says English. “I feel like I’m on this continual journey of figuring out what I truly believe and separating it from the false and toxic ideas I was taught about myself and the world throughout my life. I hope I can inspire others to also search for their inner truths and find their own inner strength in the process.”

The video to “Shaking” is very tongue in cheek, exploring that desire to find the “inner truth” and the dangerous effect of being smitten by something, whether it is an idea or person, which seems appealing at first but is actually dangerous. It combines the best and worst of the late 1960s and sees English, channelling a dark-haired Dusty Springfield, recruit a young, vulnerable man into her sect. Remember when the characters portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood visit the Manson Family commune? It is very much like that, but with less homicide and more jelly.
