Hilary Woods has unveiled her spellbinding new single “Taper,” accompanied by a video she created using hand-processed 8mm and 16mm film, archive material, and polaroids. The track is both delicate and deeply affecting, weaving Woods’ voice with the striking presence of the Hangleton Brass Band. As she explains, “‘Taper’ is a song that honours a presence to one that is absent. A love song that only a children’s choir could express fully, it was a real joy to work with the Hangleton Brass Band on this one.” The result is an intimate piece that glows with a haunting warmth.
The song is taken from Woods’ forthcoming album NIGHT CRIÚ, arriving October 31 via Sacred Bones Records. Across its seven tracks, the album sees Woods return to lyrical song form, centering her voice in lush layers of harmony. Described as a ceremony of light and shade, the record is shaped by themes of memory, community, and transformation, with brass band and children’s choir adding expansive textures. The whole project was recorded across Ireland, London, Latvia, and the U.S., and mixed by Dean Hurley.
