Amsterdam based composer and multi instrumentalist Jesper Vervoort makes music as Jespfur, a project that seems happiest somewhere between a half remembered dream and a memory that suddenly comes back into focus. His debut album, Pedestrians of Bright Silence, which arrived in 2024 via 10k Global, intorduced his impressionistic take on experimental rock through blurry textures and compositions that leave plenty of room for listeners to bring their own feelings into the mix. Outside of his solo work, Vervoort is also part of MIKE’s Band of the Century, which first appeared during the rapper’s NPR Tiny Desk Concert and has since reunited for several live performances.
Now Jespfur is back with “O, Wind”, his first new music since that debut, and it immediately caught our attention. Built from tangled guitar lines, layered vocals and all sorts of small instrumental details, the hazy track drifts through a slightly uncanny space where rock hallmarks starts bleeding into something much harder to pin down. There is a little bit of Jam City, Mk.gee and Bullion floating around in there, and considering those are some of our favourite names, of course we got caught by it. The single also comes with a self made video, entirely directed by Jespfur himself, which matches the song with blurry, surreal fragments that feel like someone flicking through a scrapbook of memories while half asleep.
