Joanne Robertson has just dropped “Always Were”, the second single from her upcoming album Blurrr, out next month on AD 93. It follows “Gown”, a dreamy lead single that set the tone for what’s shaping up to be a truly gorgeous record.

On “Always Were”, Robertson’s voice drifts like it’s been carried down a long tunnel, set against finger-picked guitar and the faintest, most fragile washes of sound. Oliver Coates, whose strings and textures feel both intimate and cinematic, weaves in subtle violin and atmospheric pads that tug at the edges of the song. The effect is haunting, somewhere between dreamlike distance and startling closeness. “Always Were” also comes with a conceptual, homemade video by Brad Kronz.
