Experimental cellist Mabe Fratti teases new album with “Hacia El Vacío”

“Hacia El Vacío” is taken from Mabe Fratti‘s new album, Será que ahora podremos entendernos?, out June 25 via Unheard of Hope.

Experimental Guatemalan cellist Mabe Fratti has announced a new album. While her debut record, Pies Sobre la Tierra, was mainly focusing on sound design, her sophomore effort finds a space to explore human’s issues with communication through lyrical invention (In English, the title actually means “Will we be able to understand each other now?). “The everyday act of communication is contradicted by the idea that communicating with others, and yourself, is never simple: it’s ultimately an absurd desire to want to be absolutely understood yet we insist to be because we have this human desire for connection,” Fratti explained about the album’s main idea. The record was also inspired by her stay in La Orduña, an artist space in an old factory outside of Mexico City, where she recorded for instance some field recordings of chirping birds outside her room.

Coming with the announcement, the composer has also shared a video for “Hacia El Vacío,” a hypnotic track made in collaboration with percussionist and composer Claire Rousay. Watch below and pre-order the album via Bandcamp.
