Mark William Lewis has been quietly making waves from the heart of London’s independent music scene. With a string of self-released EPs, singles, and mixtapes, he’s earned a devoted following drawn to his richly textured sound and poetic songwriting. His live shows, often intimate, always magnetic, have turned him into a word-of-mouth sensation, leading to sold-out gigs on both sides of the Atlantic.
Now, he’s stepping into a bold new chapter with the announcement of his self-titled debut album Mark William Lewis. Alongside the news, he’s shared a second single, the lively and groove-laced “Still Above,” following the earlier release of “Tomorrow is Perfect.”
Built around a rollicking rhythm and punctuated with trumpet flourishes and his unmistakable harmonica stabs, “Still Above” finds Lewis in a looser, off-kilter mood. Speaking on the track, he explains:
“‘Still Above’ is the morning after an argument. You are trying to remember what happened the night before but the memories are blurry. Part of you wants to repair the emotional wreckage, but another part of you wants to stay in bed and relax into the familiar comforts of conflict.”
Mark William Lewis marks a milestone for A24 Music, becoming their first full-length release from an independent artist.
