MOONOVERSUN fight gender stereotypes in “GIRLS/BOYS”

UK duo MOONOVERSUN share an empowering pop dance anthem “GIRLS/BOYS” to fight our expectations from girls and boys in our society.

With clear colorful aesthetic and a catchy addictive sound, the duo uses fun to create a message with power. The duo channel their inner Charli XCX and SOPHIE with their track, and we are not here to complain. The two members of the duo are equally involved in the creation of their music, and for us, MOONOVERSUN decided to share their experience in a male-dominated industry where people seem to doubt it.

In the music industry stereotypes are continually perpetuated with men and women being assumed into certain roles based on their gender. As a completely equal duo we share every single aspect of our work, whether that be producing the music behind the scenes or being centre stage as performers. A problem we and others constantly face is people putting us in certain roles; boy as the producer and girl as the performer just because of our gender, which we feel can be reductive. There are so many sick female writers and producers out there so why do people make this assumption?

“If you see a band/group with a female(s), don’t just congratulate their male counterpart, chances are she invested just as much time and effort” – MOONOVERSUN

Sometimes both girls and boys don’t understand you, stereotypes are embedded into us from the moment we’re born so its difficult for people to disassociate. In most cases these assumptions are not malicious, but it does mean we need to push our 50/50 ideas more and more. If you see a band/group with a female(s), don’t just congratulate their male counterpart, chances are she invested just as much time and effort.
