A trio of good friends reconnected to create music via their new project SAUNAS. With a mixture of old pop inspired by the 80s and modern indie sounds, we are ready to bet on their game.
The fans of Vampire Weekend and Animal Collective will definitely be drag into the universe as it sounds as refreshing and fun. With high-pitched vocals and tropical drums, we won’t be able to forget the summer soon enough as they don’t hesitate to use of their magic to invite us to a warm destination. We had a chance to discuss with them about how they reconnected, their Jeremy Clark-produced upcoming EP and how “Your Body” represents the best Saunas‘ sound.
Highclouds: Hello guys! Can you introduce yourself for our readers who don’t know you yet?
Hi Highclouds! We’re Hans, Jay & Liz from Nashville TN.
When did you meet and how did you start doing music?
We’re old friends that reconnected at a wedding a couple years ago. We started sending tracks back and forth. One thing led to another and here we are, on the Internet. We all live together now, in Nashville.
What can you tell us about your debut “My Body”?
This song is about that feeling of being stuck in life and knowing that you haven’t really tapped into your potential. It started off as a kind of 60’s vocal thing and then it evolved from there.
Why did you decide to release this song as the first taste of your music? How does it represent your sound?
We felt like this song told the story we wanted to tell about trying to be better people. Also, the sound is a good overall picture of a lot of what we’re into instrumentally.
You seem to be very inspired by 70s-80s sounds. Why?
I think we all grew up with our parents music and so much of that stuff just gets even better with time. We find it pretty tough not to make songs that in some way nod back to those eras.
“We hope the EP paints a complete picture of what we we’re about.” – Saunas
If you have to pick a season of the year that fits the best your music, which one would it be? Fall, Winter, Spring or Summer?
Probably late August, when you know summer is ending but you’re excited for fall because you live in Tennessee.
What can you tell us about your self-titled EP that will be out soon?
It was tough to decide which songs to pick for the EP. But we feel good with what we chose and it feels good. We hope the EP paints a complete picture of what we we’re about.
Do you have a favorite song that you’ll like to recommend us?
If you mean old song then it’s definitely “I Feel Love” by Donna Summer. Blows me out of the water every time.
