Two years after Your Need, Russian producer Kedr Livanskiy announces today the release of her third album, Liminal Soul. “I was trying to feel about the boundary between the opposites – analogue and digital, natural and urban, a sound and voice and then erase it,” explained the musician. “It is such an intense interlacement of meanings, so the music came out liminal, ever-changing, elusive.”

She has also shared the haunting, house-inspired first single, “Stars Light Up (Посмотри на небо),” which invites the listeners to “plunge into the night skies.” Watch the Sergey Kostromin-directed video and pre-order Liminal Soul via Bandcamp below.

Recently, Kedr Livanskiy also recently released her first soundtrack for Michael Idov‘s romantic tragicomedy Jetlag.

One year after the release of her sophomore album Your Need, Moscow producer Kedr Livanskiy has just shared visuals for “Ivan Kupala (New Day) (Иван купала),” the closing track of the record. In the video, that she co-directed with Konstantin Bushmanov, Kedr is hanging out with her friends in an underground parking and outdoors. The breakbeat-inspired track ends the album on an uplifting and optimistic note, and this is definitely palpable in the visuals.

Kedr Livanskiy‘s videos have always been loaded with symbolism and the visuals of “Sky Kisses” are no exception. The oneiric and surreal clip celebrates rebirth, a theme that sets the pace on the Moscow producer and vocalist’s latest album Your Need. About the video, director Sergey Kostromin commented:

[su_quote]There is something fabulous and mysterious in this track, and therefore the idea came up to refer to a fairy tale. The track constantly transfers the listener from one space to another. In a few weeks, Moskow artist Kedr Livanskiy will release the follow up to her 2017’s impressive album Ariadna. Titled Your Need, this new record is set to take some distance from the cold and gloomy soundscapes of her previous offering. This sound shift was palpable in the first single “Kiska” and even more on her brand new track, “Ivan Kupala (New Day)”, which actually closes the 10-track project with a luminous touch. Produced by Flaty, the pulsating track reminds of the effervescence of spring and celebrates the victory of life and rebirth. In her own words:

Moscow’s producer Yana Kedrina, better known as Kedr Livanskiy, has announced the follow-up to her promising 2017’s album Ariadna. After her melancholic debut album, Livanskiy started to feel lost with her identity and it’s through DJing that she was eventually able of getting out of this state. Recorded in a few weeks only, her sophomore album Your Need is set to celebrate life and to act as a rebirth. According to the press release:

Kedr Livanskiy has also shared the first single, “Kiska (киска)”, which indeed sounds like a new turn. Taking some distance from the floating and gloomy synths of Ariadna, this energized offering mainly relies on hypnotic vocal samples, disquieting synths and tribal percussion loops. Last year, Kedr Livanskiy released on 2MR the album “Ariadna.” She unveils today “Bilo Vremya (There Was A Time),” her first track of 2018. According to Noisey, where the track was premiered, it was composed back in 2014. It comes with a DIY, mainly black and white video whose rural environment reminds us of her excellent coming-of-age “Your Name” video. The Russian singer and producer detailed:

1- Brendan Maclean – “House Of Air” (Director: Brian Fairbairn and Karl Eccleston)

Brendan Maclean‘s “House of Air” is probably the NSFW-est video you might have seen this year. It is also one of the most realistic, controversial, and marketable one. Presented as an anthropological study of gay semiotics, taxonomies, and sexual behaviours”, the Hal Fisher-inspired video doesn’t dance around the topic to present gay sex, bondage and more. Strangely, the video was uploaded on YouTube and was banned ten days after with 700,000 views. Directed by Brian Fairbairn and Karl Eccleston, the final rendition is graphic and can’t be more real. It it art, documentation, entertainment, or pornography? Here is the interest and no one can really answer but Maclean is sure about the artistic side of his proposition: “This was never a ‘marketable’ idea, but it was an original one that I cared about. Was it for everyone? Absolutely not. Has it been the most success I’ve had with anything ever? Absolutely.”

2-SOPHIE – “It’s Okay To Cry” (Director: SOPHIE)

We are fans of SOPHIE’s work since Day 1 and with this new track and video, the producer is pushing the boundaries even further. For the first time ever, she is even starring in her video. SOPHIE appears as androgynous and the visuals come out with a statement from the artist who want to be referred to using she/her pronouns. The interesting part of the colorful emo-dramatic visuals mainly lies in the representation of nudity: as one can notice, SOPHIE is freely exhibiting her breast (and nipples) but YouTube did not censor anything. The appearance of the producer is so gender fluid though, that the arbitrations of YouTube on that specific topic seem to be totally outdated. And it’s useless to add that the fact she also used the same colors than our website was a solid artistic statement.

Alongside long time collaborator Andrew Thomas Huang, a dress by Gucci‘s Alessandro Michele and masks by James Merry, Björk delivers one of the most intense videos of the year. After exploring her sadness after the break-up of a 13 year-old relationship in “Vulnicura”, she decided that it was time to open herself again to love. From an open chest wound featured in the previous videos, there is a prismatic portal of futuristic lovers awaiting for her. In a world where everything is possible, there is space from healing of a hearbreak. The first single taken from her ninth album “Utopia” is an authentic piece of art, and it comes after years of pushing the limits of visual creations. Björk‘s ambition gets even bigger and we expect nothing less from her.
