Boyhood returns with striking new song and video, “A Grand Time”

Boyhood's self-released new song "A Grand Time" comes with a Monika Kraska-directed video.

Boyhood is the project of Canadian musician Caylie Runciman, built on a love of nostalgia and the strange emotions that come with growing up. What started as a name inspired by childhood memories has become a fully formed world of intimate, off-kilter pop songs that balance sweetness with something darker underneath. Across two albums, most recently My Dread in 2022, Boyhood has drawn us in with a sound where tough guitar edges, soft synths, and fragile harmonies coexist, capturing both the joy and discomfort of becoming yourself.

This dichotomy is in full effect on her stunning new single “A Grand Time.” This is the kind of late-year surprise that reminds us why we always hesitate before locking in our best-of-the-year lists, because sometimes an artist like Boyhood shows up at the last minute and changes everything. “A Grand Time” also comes with a striking new black and white video directed by Monika Kraska.
