Formed in 2018 by Kate Durman, Lachlan McGeehan, and Morgan Wright, Acopia began as an exercise in limitation: slow tempos, minimal gear, self-imposed rules. But over time, those constraints gave way to instinct, resulting in a sound that feels both fragile and deeply human. Their blend of dream-pop, downtempo, and post-punk has earned comparisons to 1980s melancholia reimagined through a 2020s lens of emotional fatigue.
On their new single “Talk About It,” the Naarm/Melbourne trio distill the discomfort of avoidance into something soft, slow, and quietly arresting. Centered around a looping guitar motif, the track doesn’t so much build as it hovers, suspended in the tension of things left unsaid. “That’s how we deal with it, we leave it at the front door,” sings Kate Durman, her delivery measured and almost detached, as if rehearsing detachment is the only way to survive the weight of honesty.
Following their self-titled sophomore album in 2023, “Talk About It” feels like a natural continuation—less about catharsis, more about sitting with discomfort. It’s a song that lingers, refusing easy resolution, much like the conversations it hesitates to have.
Alongsidde the release, Acopia will embark on a European tour this May, with shows across the UK, France, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany. The run includes their debut London headline at The Lexington on May 19th, a fitting setting for a band whose music thrives in intimate spaces.
