Alex Anwandter – Siempre es viernes en mi corazón
[su_dropcap style=”simple”]I[/su_dropcap]t’s a long petal of wine, sea and snow according to its most eminent poet but Chile has prosaic sides to it as well. Pop music, for example. Chile is a country of songwriters with an outrageous sense for melody and a knack for the contemporary and the political. Take Alex Anwandter. His “Siempre es viernes en mi corazón”, first single from his second solo album “Amiga”, is a state-of-the-art banger that doubles as an anthem for disempowered queers.
WASI – Mama’s Gonna Get You
[su_dropcap style=”simple”]T[/su_dropcap]hey’re back! WASI return with their first release since their stunning debut EP “Bleed Pop”. “Mama’s Gonna Get You” is a punky, poppy number which is hard not to like. Despite talking about frustrating issues that surround society WASI fill this song with an energetic and upbeat rhythm that will raise your spirits.
Michael Blume – Colors

Blume burst on to the scene with his hugely popular track “Manufactured Love”. Although only releasing two tracks, he has accumulated a devout following and is already selling out gigs and being calmly compared to the likes of Frank Ocean. Which is quite something.

As I was taking the subway to hear a lecture on music and its role in the lives of the LGBTQ community, a tune randomly popped up on my Spotify shuffle mode: “Smalltown Boy” by Bronski Beat. To many of my straight friends, it’s a nice tune with a good eighties beat. Sadly to Kate Ryan, plastic queen of Eurodance, it’s a good song to turn into a cringe-worthy ballad. But to me and queers around the world, this song is a true anthem of gay liberation. Why is that?
