Cross Record – Basket

As you might know already, everybody’s favourite owners of a Texan ranch Cross Record are about to release their sophomore album, which bears the catchy and deep title of “Wabi-Sabi”. Three songs have been released as singles so far: “High Rise“, which we love, “Steady Waves“, which we love, and “Basket“, which we LOVE.

“Basket” which is this week’s number 25th of our HighClouds30, has now a video to go with it and it’s dense and implacable as the song itself. Directed by Andrew McMannon, it features Emily Cross as a Medieval Cleopatra embarking on a monochrome night-time trip packed with symbols and archetypes. There are woods, water and caves and black goo dripping: everything exudes a certain uncanny energy, thick and feminine, which makes perfect sense for a song about giving birth. Be assured: it’s going to give you life too. And disturb you a little in the process, which is never a bad thing.

Directed by Andrew McGlennon.

“Wabi-Sabi” is out January 29th via Ba Da Bing Records.
