Grimes – Art Angel (Documentary)

Canadian singer Grimes released her much acclaimed new album “Art Angels” a few weeks ago putting the whole pop world upside down. She has now shared a documentary via The Fader where she explains the whole process for this album, her frustrations as a woman in the music industry and how her way into making something real in this industry is to be “aggressive”

In this documentary, she first explains her creative process for this album that was conceive “against the people who are trying to take it away from me”. She explains how she had to create many characters since “Grimes as one person cannot represent more than a couple ideas”. This idea of creating many characters is perceivable in her video “Flesh Without Blood“.

She also a little discussion with the Taiwanese rapper Aristophanes about their common track together “Scream“. They both agree that they love each others music and creative process since they work the same way “with laptops and loopings” and define both their music as “aggressive”. For Grimes, the aggressive attitude of her music is very important, “You have to push people and you have to become aggressive or you can’t get your way.”, she explains. She also explains how important is for her the battle again men in the music industry and against blogs (especially Pitchfork) who are trying to take her music away from her. She explains how hard is for her to constantly get emails from producers who want to do her job. Watch the documentary below :
