Ever since we stumbled upon miaw‘s glitchy, shape-shifting debut song “ATT” in 2024, the Copenhagen-based duo (Frederik Bruun + Liza Dries) has been sitting comfortably on our radar as one of the most exciting discoveries out of the city. Their ability to blur the lines between experimental textures and emotional songwriting feels both instinctive and carefully crafted, like they’re constantly reshaping what a pop song can be without losing that human touch.
Following the release of “moving in”, a gem that already found its way into our Best Songs of 2026 playlist, miaw returns today with “sad song”, and it’s anything but what the title suggests. What begins as a hazy, almost nostalgic intro quickly flips into something far more urgent, driven by pulsating synth bass, sharp drums, and vocals that cut through with a bright intensity. Written between Berlin and Copenhagen, the track captures that restless shift from introspection to release, turning sadness into movement, into energy. As Liza puts it, “Sad Song is spring to me – like a little seed or knop on a tree patiently waiting at first, honest and gentle… Get exposed to the world, have fun, get hurt – get some real life experience.” Frederik adds, “I remember that morning I had a feeling something needed to burst out… this song came to us and wanted to explode.” That tension between softness and eruption is exactly where miaw thrives, and we’re hoping this spring-tinged new song is part of a bigger project.
