Pictureplane just dropped a nocturnal new single, “Night Falls”, and it’s every bit as haunting and hypnotic as you’d hope. Even better, it comes with an eerie video filmed on a mezcal farm in rural Oaxaca, Mexico. Directed and edited by Eduardo Caudillo, it follows a kind of lone nighttime journey that spirals into a dark, psychedelic awakening. It’s moody, trippy, and feels like it was plucked straight from a dream.
The track is the latest taster of Sex Distortion, Pictureplane’s next album, out October 31. The record’s name comes from an El-P lyric, and most of it was crafted in solitude at his Brooklyn studio before being polished up with Ben Greenberg and Mike Birnbaum, then mastered by Joe LaPorta. Expect deep vocals, foggy lo-fi drum machines, and pulsing synths that feel both gritty and otherworldly. Gothboiclique’s Yawns even pops in to add guitar on the title track.
