When we first introduced SY3, pronounced “sigh,” to our readers a few weeks ago, it was through their nocturnal and vibey debut single “Tell Me”. Now, they are unveiling a new taster from their debut EP 梦游 Sleepwalker, which will be released on March 25 via Amsterdam ambient and electronic tastemakers Music From Memory. The trio brings together Chinese-American artists Kelly Guan, Alex Ho, and Phil Cho, who began making music together in 2023 after bonding over their shared love of Cantonese pop, cinema, and melody-driven songwriting. With Guan’s gentle vocal presence and Ho and Cho’s layered instrumentation, the project feels intimate, nostalgic, soothing, and full of quiet storytelling.
Their new single and title track of the EP, “梦游 Sleepwalker”, floats in that same delicate space. Built around a Cantonese spoken-word narrative, it tells the story of a sleepwalking young girl who sits alone on a balcony, wondering where she might have gone the night before. The production moves softly, guided by ambient textures and a subtle Chinese folk-inspired melody that gives the track a timeless feeling. As the song unfolds, a tender saxophone solo emerges, adding one final emotional layer before everything fades. Gorgeous.
