Test Subjects shift gears on spiraling new song “Have You Lost Your Mind?”

Test Subjects' comeback single, “Have You Lost Your Mind?,” is out now.

After a three-year silence, experimental pop duo Test Subjects have reemerged with a sharp new release, “Have You Lost Your Mind?”. While their conceptual debut Study was navigating the world through the lens of social science and lab-coat aesthetics, the group now turns their songwriting inward and their sound backward. Melody English and Sam Glick trade the observational for the emotional and dive deep into the chaos of personal unraveling.

“Have You Lost Your Mind?” is a vivid throwback, channeling the soulful textures of the ’60s — think Motown harmonies colliding with swirling psychedelic keys. Despite its emotional weight, the track doesn’t lose the band’s winking sense of humor: A cuckoo clock chiming in the background adds a twisted grin to the tension and punctuates the question at the heart of the song.

The duo will perform the new single live at Union Pool in Brooklyn on May 16. More releases are reportedly on the way ; a proof that the Test Subjects are still very much in their element.
