Departing from the glitchy, skittering electro beats of his last single “Cold Water,” Christian Sean’s latest release “All in Your Hands” is instead a subtle and menacing affair. Throughout a sparse, downtempo drum pattern, droning basslines and swelling synth pads underly Sean’s enigmatic, falsetto vocals, creating an atmosphere perfectly in fitting with the best futuristic pop of today.
“It’s like a prayer”, says Sean, “about how the future of human life on earth may very well be in the hands of 100 or so corporations, but there’s an inevitable price to pay for that kind of power imbalance. A karmic retribution from forces beyond our control.”
The lyrics, however cryptic they might be, definitely elucidate those themes of uncertainty, reminding you of the unnerving, surreal music of well-known, alt pop artists, like Son Lux or Yves Tumor. If you’re an alt-pop head with a penchant for the off-kilter, Christian Sean is definitely a musician to be watching.
