“The Dark Arts” is taken from French for Rabbits‘s yet-untitled third album, to be released in 2021.
Although they just finished an intimate tour throughout their homeland of New Zealand, French for Rabbits don’t plan to rest. The band have just unveiled a video for “The Dark Hearts,” a new single taken from their upcoming third album. Exploring how we hold onto objects for sentimental reasons, the elegant chamber pop offering also comes with a dusty video, courtesy of cinematographer Ted Whitaker and the band’s vocalist Brooke Singer. “Dust is a reminder of things that were there before, the artefacts of living,” she explained. “The video was filmed in a beautiful 1960’s hall (currently for sale) which I spied on the internet and was instantly drawn to its tall triangular form and wood panelled walls. They graciously let us film there, and so we went in one evening as the sun was setting with a vacuum bag of dust, and a camera.”
She then added:
“A bit of spontaneity and luck provided us with a piano, some artfully placed chairs – and we also glimpsed two magnificent dogs walking past with their owner. We didn’t catch his name, but after running out to greet them, we found ourselves with two very kind dogs who agreed to sit beside me for a section of the video…so yes dust, dogs, a dark hall and an old piano.”
