Sarah Register steps into the spotlight with her stunning solo debut, “does it hurt,” a track that blends raw emotion with experimental precision. Co-produced with longtime collaborator Nick Sylvester, the song draws from noise, avant-pop, and cinematic soundscapes to create something both visceral and dreamlike.
The accompanying video, conceptualized by Register and edited by Gates Bradley with additional work by Azul Niño, weaves together archival and current footage. Featuring movement by Register and Amy Rose Khoshbin, it’s a layered visual piece that feels alive and intimate.
“To me, this video is a living, breathing piece of art—performance, memory, and movement held in a series of charged visual breaths,” says Register. “It’s the clearest expression yet of the world I’ve been moving toward: where experimental pop, visual performance, and physical expression converge. What Amy Rose Khoshbin and I captured years ago now feels reborn—intimate, visceral, and opening toward something even larger.”
Based in LA, Sarah Register is known for her work with Kim Gordon and as one half of the cult duo Talk Normal. A composer, guitarist, and mastering engineer, she’s shaped the experimental scene from the inside out. With “does it hurt” and “right,” she continues to blur lines between experimental music, emotions, intimacy, and abstraction.
