Peruvian-born, Berlin-based producer Sofia Kourtesis is making her grand return this summer. The artist, who is known for her deeply personal dance music that blends political courage with pure joy, has announced her new EP Volver. If you are in Madrid, she will also play a free gig on June 20.
Leading the way is the luminous new single “Unidos”, created in collaboration with Daphni (Dan Snaith, also known as Caribou). It’s their first track together, and it radiates with warmth and unity.
“’Unidos’ is about the power and beauty of how much stronger we are together. I always admire the light and the beautiful shine of Dan, he is a hero and he is so generous without making a big fuss about it,” Kourtesis shared.
Daphni added: “Sofia sent me a demo of this track that she’d been working on and it was immediately evident that it was a massive track. To be clear, all the good ideas in this track are Sofia’s I just added some drums and pumped up the arrangement.”
With Volver, Sofia pays tribute to the LGBT+ community and the brave trans women who inspire her, especially those fighting against systemic injustices in Latin America. She describes the EP’s creation as an emotional rollercoaster, much like a Pedro Almodóvar film — chaotic, painful, yet full of life and color.
